The WTI, established in 1999, is one of the world's leading research centres and training institutes in international trade law. The WTI's training and education programmes are both offered in Switzerland and abroad. It has become increasingly apparent that there is a huge deficit in knowledge and expertise, particularly in developing countries, in this relatively new and under-studied field. For this reason, the WTI is now offering students from all over the world the possibility to follow one of its training programmes. It is hoped that this programme will make a contribution to bridging the knowledge gap and redressing some of the asymmetries between developed and developing countries in the role that they play in the world trading system.
Programme details
Programme description
The World Trade Institute / CMP Publishing programme on international trade regulation aims to provide students with knowledge of the contemporary legal framework governing the world trading system. The programme builds on the expertise that has been accumulated in the World Trade Institute during nearly a decade of teaching, research, and consulting on international trade and on CMP Publishing's expertise as a leading publisher in the field of international economic law.
The programme shall primarily be delivered via Internet and thus allow students to access the expertise, information and knowledge available at the World Trade Institute without being required to spend long periods of time abroad. It shall make it possible for students to gain knowledge in international trade regulation largely independently from the location of their studies.
The programme consists of eight topical modules, seven of which are distance learning modules, while the last module will be a residency module during which students and instructors have an opportunity to meet in person. Each of the programme’s modules has been developed by experts in the field and, although only one of the eight modules will be based on traditional face-to-face interaction, participants will be supported by our staff throughout the learning process. Both its in-depth focus on international trade regulation and its innovative method of teaching make the programme unique on an international scale.
